Excessive earwax is one of the most common and easily treated causes of muffled hearing. At Dewa Medical, a general practitioner examines your ears and performs warm-water irrigation at our clinic — or at your hotel or villa across Bali.
Many patients contact us after surfing, swimming, or flying to Bali with one ear suddenly feeling blocked or underwater. In many cases, impacted earwax is the cause and can be safely removed after a short examination.
Can a doctor remove earwax at my hotel or villa in Bali? Yes. Dewa Medical provides professional ear irrigation at hotels, villas, and residences across Bali. A licensed GP examines both ears with an otoscope, then uses warm-water irrigation to remove impacted wax. Open daily 9AM–9PM, after-hours WhatsApp requests welcome. Clinic pricing IDR 750,000 — same price regardless of the number of ears treated. Mobile visits from IDR 1,200,000 depending on location. Procedure takes 20–30 minutes. Earwax (cerumen) naturally protects the ear canal by trapping dust and debris. Problems arise when it accumulates faster than the ear can clear it — which happens more often in warm, humid climates like Bali, especially for people who surf or swim regularly.
We commonly see patients with:
Ear irrigation is the clinically preferred method for removing impacted earwax. It uses a controlled stream of warm water to soften and flush wax from the canal without inserting any instruments. The procedure is performed only after an otoscope examination confirms the eardrum is intact and irrigation is appropriate.
Microsuction is not available at Dewa Medical. Warm-water irrigation is the method used.
The doctor inspects the ear canal and eardrum to confirm wax is present and irrigation is safe to perform.
A gentle stream of body-temperature water is directed along the canal wall to soften and dislodge the wax. No instruments enter the canal.
The doctor re-examines the canal with the otoscope to confirm full clearance and check for any residual wax or irritation.
Avoid water in the ears for 24 hours. The doctor advises on prevention — including why cotton buds are not recommended.
If irrigation is not suitable, our doctor will discuss alternative treatment options at the appointment.
All prices are itemised. No consultation surcharge — the doctor fee covers both examination and the procedure.
Blocked ears? We examine both and treat whichever needs it. Same price regardless — IDR 750,000 total. Includes otoscope check, irrigation, and aftercare.

Earwax problems in Bali usually happen suddenly — here are the situations we treat most often.
Two-hour surf session at Batu Bolong. Left ear suddenly muffled — like the volume was turned down on one side. Tried shaking water out and swallowing, no change by the following morning. Doctor visit to the villa: otoscope exam showed impacted wax pushed deeper by water pressure. Warm-water irrigation cleared both ears. Hearing returned to normal immediately after the procedure.
Arrived at the Seminyak hotel with right ear feeling completely blocked — had noticed it during descent into Ngurah Rai. Tried yawning and jaw movements, didn't resolve. Day two: still blocked, starting to affect balance. Doctor to the hotel: examination showed wax compacted by cabin pressure change. Single-ear irrigation at the hotel. Ear cleared during the procedure.
Three weeks of working with in-ear headphones 8+ hours a day, swimming at the beach most evenings. Both ears gradually getting more muffled — affecting call quality and concentration. Doctor visit to the Berawa villa: bilateral wax buildup confirmed. Both ears irrigated in a single session. Noticed the difference before the appointment had finished. Doctor advised reducing in-ear headphone use and avoiding cotton buds.
Earwax buildup can affect anyone, but certain groups are more prone to it in Bali's environment.
Water repeatedly entering the ear canal accelerates wax accumulation. We recommend professional cleaning every 3–6 months for regular water sport participants in Bali.
In-ear devices slow the ear's natural cleaning process, causing wax to compact over time. This is especially noticeable when switching between earphones and swimming.
Flights, humidity changes, and swimming in quick succession can cause sudden wax-related hearing changes. We see this frequently in visitors during and after the first days of their trip.
We focus on clinical accuracy, safety, and convenience for patients in Bali.
All procedures are performed by Indonesian doctors with valid STR and SIP registration. Ear examination and irrigation are done by the same doctor, not delegated to support staff.
Irrigation tips are single-use and disposed of after each patient. Equipment is never shared between appointments.
We provide itemised receipts and medical reports in English on request — useful for travel insurance claims.
We cover Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, Ubud, Sanur, Nusa Dua, Denpasar, and surrounding areas. The home visit fee depends on distance from our Kerobokan clinic.
